He built a much bigger donor base and developed a larger educational program. We had to lay off staff, but they are now coming back and we are selling many tickets for the next season. Then they had an explosion of growth.
To say that we vastly underestimated what amazing changes you imagined and implemented would be an understatement itself. Although Brand was busy developing new programs at Wharton and building bridges with the various colleges on campus, he was always playing a major role in national arts organizations. The Executive Director and his wife Peggy have developed deep friendships in the Greater Lansing area and intend to stay here when he retires.
Brand will be retiring on the 40th anniversary of the opening of the Wharton Center. A former professional trumpet player, Brand believes in the performing arts and how they can transform lives and communities.
